Since 2000, the husband-and-wife duo, Carmel and Terrell Swan of catstudio have woven together their spirit of wanderlust and mutual appreciation for art, design, and craftsmanship into decorative textile-works inspired by vintage souvenir pillows of the 30s and 40s. Hand embroidered by skilled artisans in a process spanning months, the meticulously crafted pillows in the Geography Collection capture the whimsical essence of all 50 states across the United States, plus many cities, regions, resorts, and national parks.
Pillow Geography invites readers on a leisurely magic pillow ride from the rolling folds of the misty Appalachian Mountains all the way to sunny San Francisco through the Golden Gate Bridge, and everywhere in between. So settle in, get comfortable, and come dream across America . . . one catstudio pillow at a time.
About the Authors
Carmel Swan, a native of Hawaii, grew up a globetrotter, visiting Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Asia, with frequent trips to the Continental US, by the age of 18. Settling down in Los Angeles after studying art in college, she initially pursued a career with Arista and CBS recording companies.
Born in California, Terrell Swan grew up in Texas and Mississippi before setting off on thrilling adventures around the globe. Channeling the sense of fearlessness he had— riding camels and elephants and catching old steam engine trains—into an entrepreneurial spirit, he opened Houston’s trend-setting fashion boutique Cotton Club in 1982, and in 1989, he and Carmel created Swan Magic, a women’s apparel company.
Meri Stevens has been credited with building Waverly into an iconic American brand as the president and creative director for nearly two decades. She was the partner/president of Weathervane Hill and consultant to many national brands. She and her husband now divide their time between Sanibel Island, Florida, and Flathead Lake, Montana.
