Dr. Jeffrey Levy has an unusual specialty. And he carries it out in an unusual way.
Dr. Jeffrey Levy specializes in veterinary acupuncture. Every day, he travels the serpentine New York City subway system to make house calls. And when he gets there, he uses the ancient technique of acupuncture to ease the pain and cure the ills of his patients and soothe the worries of their owners. Pet Vet House Calls is a collection of the doctor’s most intimate stories: tales that unfold in Manhattan high rises and Brooklyn brownstones, adventures that take place in uptown tenements and in a Queens junkyard. Dr. Jeff wields his black bag to help pets and their humans of all stripes, from celebrities and Wall Street titans with posh and pampered animals to homeless people with stray castaways.
Pet Vet House Calls offers readers practical advice, too, with tips and tricks that owners can use to help their pets, based on both traditional and alternative treatments. Dr. Levy is an acknowledged expert on the subject, one of only a few, located in the pet-festooned city of New York, who has treated hundreds of patients during his career. This memoir-in-vignettes embodies the wit and charm of its author as well as lively and engaging storytelling that will inform readers about this special yet somewhat unknown area of pet care. The gigantic mainstream audience who follow any aspect of dogs and cats will be intrigued, and the book will offer opportunities for gift-giving to pet-loving friends or family members as well as for self. |
